The word I always spell wrong? "Wrong"
Okay, now that I got that out of the way, typing "definitely" gets me a red line when I type it as "definatly"
Sometimes, spelling a word right looks wrong. "Conscience"? Really? "Con"-"science"? (Yes)
One time I wrote "5ive". I knew it was wrong, but it took me a long time to figure out why.

I am the king of horrible spelling. In second grade when most kids learn to spell and write i was busy being taught french, simple french. It was horrible every day was french this and french that. Right now I cant even pass a spelling test in my high school.

I ALWAYS have issues spelling definately. See, look at that.
Much thanks to the secondary-click spell check feature in Snow Leopard, although it often times wants to replace it with "defiantly" by default.

I still to this day cannot spell "necessary" without the aid of auto-correct. I insist on adding an "i" unnecessarily into the word.

two kids are too cool to do this with me.................. I hate when they have 3 of the same words.....huhh.....they sound alike.....

In the spirit of this post, any of the words that are supposed to have "I before E, except after C." There seems to be more words that break the rule than follow it. Seizure & Deity just two off the top of my head!

For some reason, I always had a blind spot when it came to spelling "environment"...I always forgot the second "n" and spelled it enviroment.

Restaurant has always been a troubling word to spell correctly for me, thank the spell-checker overlords for solving that (most of the time).

Oh, an for a while I would, for some weird, unconcious reason, spell the word "both" with and e at the end. Used to annoy me.

I'm surprised to see that someone else has this problem, but I always have to think before I spell the word rhythm. It still doesn't look right and this is the third time I've spelled it

"separate" has always been problematic for me. Once (too long ago to think about) I had a book report to do on "A Separate Piece" and I spelled it wrong throughout the entire report (it was handwritten so no spellchecker).

I used to think that it was seperate when used as anything other than a verb, and separate when used as a verb (also, as you mention, before spell checkers).
A college English professor broke me of that when he showed us several words that can be mentally imaged as pictures. The only one that has stuck with me was "there's a rat in separate", the picture literally had a rat sitting between 'sep' and 'e'. It worked for me, I've never made that mistake again.

I teach anatomy & physiology and have many medical terms that I have difficulty spelling. The one that gets me most often is "Ophthalmology".
