Good old school gaming with a sense of humor. Of course, I also love Call of Duty 4: Modern Combat. I guess it depends on the day.

My favorite game was World of Warcraft. I had been a long-time fan of adventure and shooter games on the PC. After playing WoW for a while and at the expense of playtime of nearly any other game, I realized the Mac Book Pro would play WoW just fine, and I finally made the switch to Mac. WoW also allowed me tons of customization, and I soon developed a way to play with my touchpad and keyboard, eliminating the need for a mouse - and playing from the couch was never better.

My favorite game, of course, is Civilization V: Special Edition for Mac, because I'm new to MAC and it would be my first game.

avatar

Mystakill

Purchased it for Windows and got it for "free" when Steam came to the Mac :)

Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword is my favorite. I've spent way too many hours with it, occasionally winning the tougher levels, usually getting my butt kicked. I've tried a lot of civilizations, and for some reason like India the best.

Can't get enough Civ! I also can't wait for Civ V on the Mac!

My favourite game on my Mac is Heroes of Might & Magic III Complete. I used to play the official Mac port, but it doesn't work on modern Intel Macs, so these days I run the PC version under CrossOver.

It's my favourite game because it's so perfectly balanced in all respects, and is so open-ended. (And it has lovely graphics and some of the best music ever heard in a computer game.) The balance of elements gives the game almost endless scope and great subtlety, and the outstanding community support (there are thousands of mostly excellent user-created maps, and people continue to create them to this day) means that there's never a shortage of future games to be played and stories to be immersed in.

For me, it's the perfect game: I've been playing it for over 10 years, and I still love it almost as much as when I first got it.

I love having my sims do things I don't get to do in real life!

Loved this series since CIV 2. Hours of game play and a sense of building something keep me coming back time after time.

I've always been a huge fan of most of the Sim(s) and Civ games - the first game I remember playing for long stretches of time was the original Civilization. For the longest time, thanks to the end of a Civ game, I was always "Amy The Great" for all of my other games. Fond fond memories!

avatar

This would be wonderful. If I won the game I might actually be able to convince SWMBO to let me play! :)

Although delayed by a few months, when Jedi Knight II came out, I had a sweet new TiBook and the game looked better and played more smoothly than on my top-line Dell laptop!

avatar

bdegrande

My other favorite OS X game is Plants vs. Zombies for its great sense of humor and because it really increases the difficulty level properly, teaching you how to play every step of the way.

avatar

viper8628

Has to be Civ IV. I love the different scenarios and replay value of all the Civ games. I've lost countless hours since the original.

avatar

Who could ever forget one of the best First Person Shooters with Multiplayer to hit the Mac. I can still hear the game music in my head. The sound of Bobs being attacking by the Phor, and the Sph'it. The cryptic messages on terminals from rampant AIs using you as their toy. The adrenaline rush from being chased by a jugernaut down a small corridor. And burning your friends on a LAN network with the dreaded flame thrower leaving charred bodies behind of your carnage. That's right "Carnage for the rest of us".

avatar

Aristocat

Definitely Myth:The Fallen multi player, I have lost so many nights of sleep trying to get my ranking up to a level of awesome.

Plus who could not enjoy a self destructing walking dead IED for your enemies, and a little mine laying dwarf.

avatar

rrfrias

This is my favorite Mac game. It help me pass the time after long patrols and convoys in Afghanistan. Although the game keeps you informed, I would scribe notes on a current game to keep track. It kept my sanity.

avatar

lopezzi

I have always loved SimCity. Carmageddon 2 is always fun too. But recently it is probably SC2.

avatar

Angband is the longest lasting and most replayable game I have played on any platform. Over 20 years, and still being actively developed and improved. http://rephial.org/

If you count the entire Civ series as a game, it is a close second. Maybe Civ V will push it over the top, looking forward to trying it.

avatar

pevans01

I really enjoy the Lego games on the mac - Batman, Indiana Jones, and Star Wars are all great.

avatar

dixiesk

My favorite game has to be Civilization, or Starcraft. Or any other real time strategies. Can't wait to play CIV 5! :)

avatar

hypersapien

Though its not my CURRENT favorite, the game I have played most on the Mac would be Warcraft 3.

Least favorite ever played on Mac: Shadowbane.

avatar

Civilization is my favorite

avatar

drwrecker

I've loved this game since I started with Civ III!!!

avatar

deurbroucq

My favorite game is the 4x oldie but goodie Spaceward Ho! I love it! It is deceptively simple and surprisingly deep. The AI was really good for its time and did not cheat. Just one more turn.

avatar

carmelapple

...the original Civ was probably one of my all time favorite games for the Mac.

avatar

drkenfp

I loved Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri - alas, it only ran in Classic mode. Take Civ and add truly unique leaders and a really innovative storyline. Would that I could play it today. IMHO, the best of the Civ franchise to date. Heck, I'd been following Sid Meier since he wrote "Cartels and Cutthroats" for the Apple //.

I loved The Fool's Errand by Cliff Johnson - the only truly replayable puzzle game. Again, tough to play in MacOS X.

I really enjoyed playing the old Reliefware games for the ]{gs - because I wrote them, I knew that people enjoyed them, and I revelled in being able to play something I wrote with my own two hands.

But as for today... Portal. Definitely Portal. Replayable, funny, graphically gorgeous, and challenging.

--Ken (hopeful that Civ V will be in his hands soon) Franklin

The first time I played Portal was when Steam offered for free to celebrate the launch of Steam on the Mac. That is probably my favorite game so far, I just picked up Plants vs Zombies and that is fun and addicting as well.

avatar

Diablo was def my fave. The grandfather of all newer RPGs.

avatar

nmz502

My favorite mac game would have to be Plants vs Zombies because it is the most fun game EVER!!!!!!

avatar

and favorite game is civ iv for the mac!

avatar

My Favorite game for the mac is by far Civilization IV. The endless number of hours of gameplay and the many different settings and campaigns let you have a completely different gaming experience every time you play it. That is why Civilization IV is my favorite game to play on the Mac.

avatar

augi01

First game I really ever sunk a lot of time into. I might even start playing again when Cataclysm drops. For the Horde!

avatar

Mykul155

the best game on Mac is any game because it's not on a dumb ass windows computer

avatar

Don't play games as much as I used to. But my fondest memories are going through all 3 of the Marathon games.

avatar

Banny706

Ported over to Mac by MacSoft. I really like this style of game and was a big fan since Age of Empires.

avatar

paulke

Still love the classic EV: Nova. Would love to see an update to it and a new Ares for OS X.

avatar

Tillek

GOt to love it, always a good diversion when you need to kill a few minutes.

avatar

Command and Conquer Generals; Zero hour
Was originally played on the PC but then I got smart and bought a mac and luckily they had it there too, great real world strategy war game.

avatar

Paul K

Bejeweled, because I play it when I need to take a short break from work.

avatar

Starcraft 2. It's the one I'm playing now.

The whole Warcraft series is fantastic. Admittedly, the second one is probably my favorite. They all have great replay value and always keep you coming back for more!
