We like our stuff here at Mac|Life. You see, we have a lot of it, and we’re not going to risk losing it all at any expense. But we’re also not hip to lugging around heaps of stuff if a building floods or catches on fire. But we want to know about our readers, so comment below with the one thing you’d grab before hightailin’ it outside in a worst-case scenario. There’s no extra points for creativity, but we’d much rather read interesting responses.
This month the winner will win an ioSafe Solo disaster proof external hard drive. It’s the perfect computer accessory to store and protect all your cherished files, as 2012 looms ever closer on our iCals.
If you doubt the power of the ioSafe Solo, check out our video testing the device.

I could pretty much guarantee I would grab my boots, my jacket and maybe a blanket because Its always cold I would also grab a banana because I usually see them on the table and take one when I leave the house anyway...
After the family, I would probably not get out because I would need my ipods, laptops, piles of backup photo CDs, photo albums, hard drives, and favorite stuffed animal. And my pillow. I'm dead.
First thing I'd grad is my shoes, the car keys and my wallet, then get my three dogs out of the house. Need the car to get the dogs to the kennel, the keys to get the car moving, shoes are a nice accessory item, and having your wallet with money is handy too. Take your money and run!
I would most likely grab my family, dogs, and guns. You can never be to prepared. I would also grab a TV and the DVR, because if my wife missed her soaps, I might as well had just stayed in the house during the disaster!!!
Trite, but true, I would take my Time Machine hard drive as it has all the files from both my iMac and Macbook Pro. A very close second would be my first edition MacAddict and the accompanying CD. Max Lives!!
Well, I wish it was something super cool but I'd have to say my prosthetic leg. Without it I wouldn't be able to out run anything. Once I had the leg I could worry about other things but if I only had one chance. It'd have to be the leg.
...time permitting my: MBP, server HDD, phone, wallet, shoes...maybe a fire extinguisher? Or a coat, if the disaster we're talking about here happens to be nuclear winter...
well in most emergancys that require leaving the house id assume my wife and puppy will know to leave too. i almost always have my iphone on me so that wouldnt count. but if all i know is that theres a disaster and i must flee i'm gonna assume its the most logical choice. ZOMBIES!!! so of course ill be grabbing my prepacked zombie survival kit that includes everything i'd need to survive the impending zombie outbreak
the baby doll from American Girl which belongs to my daughter. My daughter doesn't go anywhere without it. So in order to get my daughter out, I have to get the American Girl out first ! And by doing that, my son will come running after those two, cause he often wants to be where big sister is.
Thank God, I was really tired of over reacting to spontaneous combustible hard drives of the old days, now I can either let it cook, or douse it with water....either way I'm cool baby...I'm cool!!
If I had to grab something, and go I would grab my tiny petite wife, that way whatever she grabs I'll be taking with me. Its like having a polly pocket.
External Hard drive (Has all of our photos on a time machine Backup)
If possible Macbook Pro but External HD has irreplaceable photos where as Macbook is replaceable.
My darn car keys so I can get away from the disaster! There is no real public transportation in North Carolina and I don't want to be stuck like Chuck.
If I had the time, I'd grab the plastic tote of all my original negatives, slides and prints (family photos). Then I'd grab the NAS drive because that contains backups of all the family's data from our two computers. Boring, I know, but everything else is replaceable.
my shoes. I live in Arizona where if your feet don't have anything between them and the pavement, they burn... not kidding. You can't take your dog for a walk during the day because the ground is too hot.
My Time Capsule: it's got backups of everything on my wife's and my MacBooks and also of the external disk drive that holds all of our pictures and music.
All those sticky notes with my password, and my MacBook Pro. I have a problem with sticky notes. I must have over 100 lying all around my house. If anybody ever happened to rob my house, they would know all of my passwords in the blink of an eye! (Not that this is a good thing...) Storing all of my notes somewhere digitally would probably be a good idea...
Launch the Keychain Access application in your Utilities folder, go to File > New Secure Note Item.
Anything you put in here will be locked up with everything else on your keychain at log-out. Just don't forget your [typically] log-in password, otherwise you'll loose all of those secure notes.
What would I grab on my way out and I can only have one? Probably just my iPhone.
My power strip - then everything I have connected to it (macbook, ipad, backup drives) will get dragged along with it...not to mention anything else that gets tangled in those cables.
