AT&T Tethering Service Delayed
Posted 10/24/2008 at 11:21:15am | by Florence Ion

Problematic issues caused by AT&T’s cellular network are preventing the iPhone tethering plan from moving ahead, sources say. Testing for the service revealed a considerable amount of issues, ostensibly the result of an unstable cellular network.

Back in August, Apple and AT&T prepared to offer iPhone users the option to purchase an additional data plan that would allow wireless computers to connect through the handset’s 3G signal. Steve Jobs had confirmed this endeavor, adding that it was absurd no such service had existed before.

Any delays to the tethering service are ultimately a result of AT&T’s reluctance. The telecom giant is uncertain that the network could handle a hefty number of iPhone owners using the service at the same time.

avatarI love my iPhone 3G ...

but I hate AT&T. Over the past few weeks, my 3G connection has been getting slower and slower, and more frequent disconnects from the internet. I can't believe that I pay them $30 dollars a month for a sub-par data service. AT&T needs to either fix their service, or charge less for the data rate. As for paying more to tether my iPhone to a computer? There is not even the slightest chance of me shelling out anymore money than I have to to AT&T.
