Using your GPS and 3G connection supplies new app--a heater. Some users found, starting in France, the new 3GS to overheat, causing a discoloration the shape of the battery on the backside of the device. After several tests, the user found the heat to be unbearable, noticing that the phone overheats while using GPS and 3G simultaneously.
A MacNN staffer independently tested a white 32GB unit and found the same problems. A PC World writer reported while playing "The Oregon Trail," her black 16GB phone to stayed the same color while plugged into the wall charger, but did dramatically change in temperature--so hot that if held against her face that it would be "painful."
Apple’s manufacture warranty, which can be extended for another year, is supposed to take care of the problem. However, the French iPhone user claimed Apple would only hold his phone for a five-day test.
