Since Apple canned the stand-alone iSight camera, how can I videoconference if I can't afford a Mac with a cam built in?
We've seen iSights in the $100 to $150 range on the block at eBay. Or try iChatUSBCam ($9.95), which enables many USB cameras to work with iChat - the company provides a list of compatible cameras on its website.

I did alot of looking around and found this cam that has 1.3 megapixels and works fine with macs. Best of all it's attractive and on sale.

What I found to work wonderfully before my new imac was... *gasp* xbox 360 live's usb cam. If you can find them without bundled software they're about 20 bucks and they work natively in ichat. Whodda thunk it?

I use my MiniDV camera hooked in through Firewire with iChat and it works perfectly.

So, I tried everything and it works great with iChat, BUT....say you'd like to stream online with either UStream or JustinTV. I found that both of these networks will not find an external webcam on your Mac.
Try CamTwist. It works. Kinda happy about this because almost any webcam that iChat locates that is connected to your Mac, you can now use to Life Stream over the internet.
Log in to Mac|Life directly or log in using Facebook
