Apple has patented a 3D projection technology. Using an "angular-responsive" surface, light sensor, projector, and "3D imager," the system creates a three dimensional hologram. As the observer's position moves, the system adjusts in order to sustain the illusion.
Imagine, all that stuff was in R2-D2. Simply amazing.

Hey! This patent is using the same technique as that university student who created a "3-D" effect using the sensor from a nintendo Wii and his computer. He used the Wiimote as a sensor, and using LED transmitters mounted on a hat the screen would change perspective based on the viewer's position. Te effect is somewhat like looking through a window.
