AT&T Ratchets Up 3G Speed and iTunes Movies Premiere in Canada and Britain

Is it faster now?: Rejoice future 3G iPhone users, 3G download and upload speeds are faster according to AT&T. The mobile operator announced Wednesday a 20 percent increase in download speeds. AT&T claims customers should achieve download speeds between 700 Kbps (kilobits per second) and 1.7 Mbps (megabits per second), up from 600 Kbps to 1.4 Mbps. Upload speeds should reach between 500 Kbps - 1.2 Mbps, up from 500 to 800 Kbps. According to AT&T, the upgrade should be complete in all markets by the end of the month.
Oh, iTunes: Apple has announced iTunes Store customers in Canada and Britain can now rent and purchase movies via the iTunes Store. The Canadian iTunes store has over 1,200 titles for your viewing pleasure. While across the pond, the UK iTunes Store will sell and rent movies, including a limited number of titles in high definition for the Apple TV.
Big in Japan: Apple and Japanese mobile operator, SoftBank have reached an iPhone deal after two years of negotiations. SoftBank will begin selling the iPhone this year. SoftBank is Japan’s third largest mobile provider and with a rapidly growing customer base. Shinko Securities analyst, Tomohiko Okugawa said, the iPhone needs “to offer something new and surprising to be a hit in Japan."
Spanish iPhone Loving: Spain your patience was been reward. Telefonica has signed a deal to be the exclusive iPhone provider in Spain. "The phone should go on sale before the summer," according to an official, fueling speculation that the 3G iPhone will be available following WWDC 08.

Not an iPhone rumor: TUAW.com is reporting that Steve Jobs will debut Mac OS x10.6 at the WWDC 08. Finally, a rumor that's not about the iPhone. Unless features found in OS X 10.6 are needed for the rumored 3G iPhone.
