The internets spilled forth a juicy rumor this week that Apple was planning on having an event on March 24. With the Mac releases yesterday, we're pretty sure if the event happens, it won't be about them. So what will the rumored event bring us? Let the speculation commence!
I love an Apple event as much as the next guy. Even more so since I'm blessed with a great job that allows me into the inner sanctum of Apple press events. You get to hang with other journalists and see all your favorite Apple execs. Plus, they have delicious pastries at their events.
Yesterday's Mac announcements put a damper on the rumored event. Is it even going to happen? What will Apple release? Where will I get delicious pastries from now? All of these thoughts ran through my mind. But just because the Macs are out, that doesn't mean Apple won't have an event. Here are a few items Apple could release on March 24.
Apple TV: Apple's hobby could finally get an update. Apple recently placed a survey on its site asking users what they would like the device to do. Of course the internet exploded, and the survey was finished within minutes of its launching. I like to think that one of questions was if owners wanted the option on the Apple TV to erase David Caruso from TV entirely.
My hatred of Mr. Caruso aside, with more and more families escaping from the clutches of the cable man, Apple has the perfect opportunity to hop into our living rooms with a new and improved Apple TV with slick new features like the one below.
iTunes Replay: This brand-spanking-new rumor promises to keep all your purchased videos on Apple's servers for access anywhere you have an internet connection. Chillin' with your iPhone in Nebraska? As long as you have 3G or Wi-Fi, you can continue your Lost watching ways. There is no word on whether the service will be subscription based like Netflix or just a new feature to keep you hooked to the iTunes Store. Of course, they could just add Netflix to the Apple TV and iPhone. That would rock too.
iPhone: Chances are the Apple Executive Super Friends will unveil the latest iPhone with X-ray vision and magic summoning powers at WWDC. It's Apple's new summer ritual, announce iPhone, watch Robbie and all his friends stand in line for hours in the hot hot sun. Apple should pass out sun screen and water at these events.
There is always the slim possibility that Tim and/or Phil will surprise us all with the newest iPhone. Hey, Steve's not around, they can do whatever they want. I'm just kidding we all know they just can't do what they want. While an iPhone announcement would be the bee's knees, Telling people three to four months ahead of time that there will be a new iPhone will really eat into the profits of the current iPhone 3G.
Instead maybe they could update the software. Maybe add, oh I don't know, copy and paste to our favorite device. Just a thought.
