Or you could download the free app Wallsaver. Google it.

Pretty cool... Is there a way to set the screen saver as the desktop image permanently, without using additional software?

Create a new apple script with what's between the dashes:
-------

[AppleScript]

tell application "Terminal"
do script "/System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Resources/ScreenSaverEngine.app/Contents/MacOS/ScreenSaverEngine -background"
end tell

[AppleScript]

-------
Save as/Export to an application.

Then add the new application to your login items in System Preferences --> Users and Groups.

Basically I took the two commands in the article and combined them into one. I wrote that into the included Apple Script and figured out (complete noob here) how to export the script into an application. I have added it to my log in items.

I'm running Mavericks under the latest build on a 2012 11" Macbook Air.
