This year's WWDC was a big one. Even without an iPhone to announce, Apple still managed to make a big splash in the developer pool. And speaking of developers, The Apple Design Awards also took place this week, and recognizes 12 applications with outstanding app design. Unfortunately, only two of them are free, but here they are for your downloading pleasure.

We're so glad that this app won an Apple Design Award. First of all, the Pulse user interface is incredibly easy to use and way more aesthetically pleasing than your average RSS feed. And secondly, if you're not really privy to the world of RSS, Pulse makes it easy to keep track of your favorite blogs and news sites with its own default list of available sources.

Grades 2 enables students to keep track of their own grades with more than just a list of assignments. The app will let you know what kind of grade you need to get on an upcoming assignment to get your target grade; helps you calculate your GPA and figure out what grades you need to maintain it; and helps you remember when upcoming assignments are due. Best of all, it works with more grading systems, regardless of scale.
