Free App Friday: Google Apps Better Than Google's Apps
Google's official Gmail iOS app left the App Store as quickly as it arrived. The app had issues with notifications, and Google today released a Twitter statement apologizing for pulling the app, and that the company had "messed up." On top of the redesign to Google Reader, we're left feeling a little more than unsatisfied with Google's latest projects.
Fortunately, there's a thriving world of independent app developers out there that can make good things happen from bad things. Or, just did them right from the start. Here's a look at three free apps that were better than Google's own Gmail for iOS app. And if these free apps seem a little too simple for you, remember that it's not like Google's was any better.
iMailG

If you're a fan of Gmail's mobile web interface, iMailG basically runs that version of Gmail in its own browser app. The app lets you switch between Gmail, Gchat, Contacts, Calendar, Reader and many of Google's other services. Plus, there are add-ons available. The app is free, though there are ads at the top of every page.
Google Apps Browser

G-Whizz is the same idea as iMailG. However, it's got a much cleaner interface, gives your push notifications for Reader, and even lets you peruse mobile Facebook.
Safe Gmail

Safe Gmail lets you set up separate, individual Google accounts so that no one has to sign out each time they want to check their email or access a document. Each account requires a 2-step verification process, which makes sure that the right user is logged on. The app supports up to 5 different Google accounts.
