We're pretty sure that your children are enjoying your iOS devices as much as you. We're also certain that your iPad is probably covered in fingerprint smudges and your iPhone is the only thing that will distract ihre kinder from wailing out of boredom in the bread aisle at the grocery store. Well, there are a ton of apps that can keep your kids busy and distracted, while also engaging their minds and teaching them a thing or two about touchscreens and navigating mobile devices. Get 'em started early with these free apps available in the Mac and iTunes App Stores.
Mac
CutieMelody

It's a simple xylophone that looks and sounds like the real thing. Kids can hit each bar to make music and discover the wonder of melody. The best part of this very simple, barebones app, is that unlike a real xylophone, this one uses headphones.
iPad
All-in-One Big Trace Combo Free Lite
Normally we don't include free "lite" apps, but this one has the most value for its functionality. While the name is long, this app lets kids trace and practice their letters and numbers. If you're got a Pogo stylus, it's a great way to keep kids busy while they practice their penmanship.
iPhone
Stick Hero
For older kids who need a bit more to keep them occupied, Stick Hero is a fun side-scrolling platformer of sorts. Help Stickman run on platforms, collect fruits and coins, fly away in a rocket and then move forward to strike objects. All it takes is tapping the screen, so the mechanics are easy for kids of any age.
