Ahh, geez. Can someone please give that kid something to play with? All these kids really want these days is a chance to creatively express themselves, right? Give them what they want: an iPad with musical instruments. On the flip side, those free instrument apps aren't just for kids who needs to keep their hands busy. There are a few that help us adults without idle hands actually put together a little tune, or learn to play an instrument. Here's a look at a few free music apps to either keep the kids busy or keep your mind in tune. See what I did there? (Maybe that pun didn't really work. Can't say I didn't try.)

Create your own dramatic masterpiece on the iPad with WI Orchestra. This free app lets you record and play back your musical endeavors. It also lets you hook up a MIDI device. You can purchase additional instruments, or just use the five that are included for free within the app.

Thinking about learning to play the guitar? This free app helps you learn the notes on the fretboard of the guitar, train your ear to hear what a tuned guitar sounds like and play a game to test yourself!

I mean, it's a xylophone. Every kid needs access to one of these things, whether physically or virtually. It's free, why not make it happen?

Yes, I know the name is as cheesy as ever. But it's an app for kids to make their own music. Get a few kids in on the game with this app and a couple of other iPads and you could have a whole virtual jam band going on. It'll be like the Partridge Family, but with less scandle and better music.
