With mobile media and the Internet taking over as the primary sources of information discovery, soon the cable networks may find themselves as fearful as their print counterparts. Startup NowThisNews aims to to be your one-stop video hub for all of the goings-on in the world. Considering their partnership with Buzzfeed, and big names associated with ABC, CNN and the Washington Post, they just may succeed.
Covering a gamut of topic hubs such as politics, tech, entertainment, and current events, the interface is simple and you can quickly scan through the day's content, where charismatic anchors give you a two minute recap. Sure, much of the content would be found in your RSS Feed/Google News hub tab but NowThisNews brings video and levity. While some of the humor contributes to the VH1-ification of the world, sometimes it's surprisingly decent. In terms of journalistic integrity, however, this is not hard hitting stuff. Since Ken Lerer also had his hand in founding Huffington Post, a blog-centric informal news style is all that you should expect.
Though NowThisNews is ambitious, it's clear to see that this endeavor is still very early on in the development process. It's still an exciting time, and for being simply the first one in the door of original mobile news content it deserves tremendous applause.
