I'm going on a road trip this summer and while I've been perfecting my Spotify playlist for the occasion, I'd like to use the trip as an excuse to discover new music, too. One of my favorite places to discover music is on NPR. Sometimes they'll stream the new album of one of my favorite independent artists, and sometimes they'll have news story about some incredibly melodious sub-genre I might want to delve into. With their iPhone app, now I can get all this music on demand.
The app features music from a heaping of genres, as well as live concerts, interviews, and music streams from more than 100 public radio stations. There's also a searchable artist directory of content from over 5,000 bands, musicians, and singers, and the editors have also laid out their own picks of their favorite artists from certain genres. The app also lets you set up a custom playlist, so you can just plug in the iPhone to your car stereo and let the ride play out to the tune of new music.
