Spring time is almost here, which means it's time to thaw out those limbs, put away the big puffy jackets and bring out the music! Yes, like a cheesy Disney song, spring time means frolicking through the meadow with forest animals and belting out to your heart's content. And while we're not advocating that you go out and make a fool of yourself, we are featuring three free apps this week that'll help you make music, discover it, and just enjoy the fact that the sun is finally shining!
Mac
VirtualDJ Home

Alright, time to bust out those chops and mix some songs for your annual Spring Fling party. VirtualDJ is widely used by "bedroom" DJs and even professionals, and is packaged with professional DJ brand products. Use it to mash up Alphaville with David Bowie, or mask your singing on top of a dub-step remix of Britney's latest atrocity.
iPad/iPhone
MTV Music Meter
Whether or not you're of the belief that MTV is no longer "Music Television", they do have a universal application for music lovers to discover new artists and bands trending on the site. The app offers song samples, photos, recent tweets and news articles in relation to any of your new finds.
Mac/iPhone/iPad
Hype Machine

This website is on our radar every day. We like to sift through some of the songs on the front page and let it play until a song catches our ear's fancy. Anything we love, we'll go to iTunes or Amazon's MP3 store and download it for keeps, thanks to links available on the site. You can also start up an account and favorite music that's not available just yet. Best of all, Hype Machine's HTML 5 compliant, which means it works on your iPhone and iPad.
