The age of new media has left us adrift in a sea of content rudderless, with many different services hoping to navigate in a direction that lands them a sweet cut of ad revenue. Since many of the original turn-of -the-millennium content curators remain as shambling zombies hungry for brains, new upstarts hope to learn from the past when bringing content directly to your device. Thirst, new and ambitious, is gathering a ton of attention and trying to separate itself from the pack.
Thirst claims itself to be a "newspaper that really matters to you," by pulling content from sources all around the web, and becoming more personalized the more you use the app. Once you set the feeds you like, Thirst tries to establish a community presence by having popular topics from other Thirst users make up a collective "Top Headlines." While Thirst barely differs from its competitors with its approach to social networking, it appears that there are actually human beings using this functionality, making it somewhat of an anomaly.
Ultimately, Thirst lacks the customizable options of Rockmelt, but the slick Metro-inspired tiles give nice polish to the at-a-glance perusal of the web. Don't expect to learn about underground music, however, since all that I could pull up was Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Jay-Z.
