When I was in college, I went to more concerts and shows than I had full nights of sleep. As I've gotten older, I've found that going to a concert is getting a lot more difficult. Juggling work and other responsibilities, itseems to require months of planning just to make it to a gig. However, sometimes I have a free night and I want to go see a show, and this is where Timbre steps in.
Timbre, developed by Intrepid Pursuits, asks you for your location and brings you a calendar with all of the local shows of note. From there, you pick an artist you'd like, and it brings you to a page with a player that includes a sample of the artist's highest-rated track on iTunes. If you're interested, you can purchase tickets via SeatGeek, and link the show to your friends via the requisite social networking mediums.
The service offers something simple, but ultimately it accomplishes its goal of getting you to stumble into a show that evening, and it's especially effective if you live in a city where there are plenty to choose from. The only downside is that it will often pick up wind of independent artists, link you to one of their tracks, and be incapable of telling you how to find tickets for the gig. Also, if you're the kind of person who likes to let the industry decide your taste for you, there's a category for Grammy Award nominees that will take you to their sites for more information.
