In this week's Free App Friday, we take a moment to salute the smallest pillar of the iTunes arsenal--the podcast. While an incredibly simple concept, the freedom of the Internet has assured that there's a show pretty much on every subject possible. Some shows inform us about the world at large, while some teach you how to build that shelf you've been putting off for quite some time, while others exist simply to entertain. If you're looking to jump in, there's simply no better choice than WTF with Marc Maron.
Marc Maron, a longtime stand-up comedian and former Air America host, runs the interview program humbly from his garage, or "cat ranch." Previous guests have ranged from legends like Robin Williams, to current comic geniuses like Louis C.K., to independent filmmakers like Todd Solondz and Mark Duplass. Episodes have been simple discussions on the biographical history of the guest, and episodes have been about the the disintegration and reconstruction of a strained friendship between Marc and the guest. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll understand the human element that comes into the art we love so dear.

The "app" portion of WTF is a simple container of the 50 most recent episodes, though by purchasing a libsyn subscription, the entire back-catalog can be accessed. By "starring" an episode of WTF, it's earmarked to check out at a later date. You're also given the options of sharing an episode via social network, or dropping Marc a line directly from the app. It's a nice shell for an already magnificent program.

Do be forewarned that the show can run more than a bit on the explicit-side, so keep the young'uns away, and prepare for often what is the most thought-provoking and emotionally honest discourse from some of the titans of the comedy and film industries.
