iOS Game Time + Gallery: Games Making Big Waves
In this week’s Game Time, we scour the dungeon floor of Gameloft’s newest creation and take a look at a few loveable indies that have been making big waves in the App Store. We've even got a nifty gallery after the fact!
Dungeon Hunter 2 HD
$6.99
Gameloft
Unlike most Gameloft offerings, it's not entirely clear which game Dungeon Hunter 2 HD is trying to rip off. Gameloft has, you see, made a name for itself as the premiere generic-brand games out there. Yet certain offerings, like Dungeon Hunter 2 HD, seem to simply play off a genre instead of mercilessly copying a more well known game.
So what is it? Dungeon Hunter 2 HD is a dungeon crawler that has you fighting your brother to become the king. The game feels great, and comes with that Gameloft shoeshine we’ve grown so accustomed to. The best part of all, however, is the leveling-up process, which is significantly easier than most dungeon crawlers. What does this mean to the gamers? Well, mostly it means you don’t have to grind through dungeons, killing the same bogwarts over and over, to level up.

Looks sharp, right?
There are so many armor upgrades and varying enemy types that even the pointy graphics can’t stop Dungeon Hunter 2 HD from being a dungeon worth crawling.
Burn the Rope
$0.99
Big Blue Bubble
The most unfortunate part of Burn the Rope is it's name. See, Burn the Rope is nothing like Cut the Rope. We’re not sure what all the destroy-rope-game names are about, but if they keep yielding puzzle games as fun as Cut and Burn we’re okay with it.

In Burn the Rope you guide a flame across a rope until you’ve destroyed all, or most of it. Fire only burns upward (we’re told) so after setting your flame ablaze, all you need to do is spin your iPhone wildly in your hands, making sure the flame is always burning upwards. Hold it in the wrong position too long and poof -- your fire’s extinguished. Later levels will introduce new problems, like bugs that eat at your rope, and get you spinning your phone wildly. It’s more fun than it sounds, trust us.
NinJump Deluxe HD
$1.99
Backflip Studios
Ninjump is a tad like Doodle Jump, in that you jump upwards. But that’s about where the similarities end. Your little ninja racer runs up walls and you tap a button to avoid cliffs, birds, cannonballs -- any number of things that are all too willing to destroy your little ninja climb. Though it’s easy enough to scale the wall for a long time, if you can show a little restraint and not slice everything in sight (slicing and jumping are done simultaneously), you might just hit three of the same enemies in a row. Do this and you’ll unlock a huge power up to help you scale the level quickly and destroy a few enemies in the process.

Ninjump Deluxe comes with three different modes, which mostly serve as skins (ala doodle jump) and introduce new bad guys and backgrounds to the classic Ninjump game.
So that’s it for this week's Game Time. Check out our highscore in the gallery and take a shot at beating an editor. If you want to see a game featured next week, hit us up in the comments. And if you want to see what we really think of Dungeon Hunter 2 HD, check out the gallery below.

Hate to be a pain, but what ever happened to the fruit ninja contest?
Thanks for the tip on Dungeon Hunter 2, just my type of game.
