Apple seems to spend an inordinate amount of its time these days at major events it organizes to simply produce etherware (sorry - proof of concept; sorry - upcoming improvements) to products it already has, rather than actually introduce something 'insanely great'- hardware or software - for immediate consumer consumption.

Rabid Macoyltes (of course) buy into the snake oil presentation, but if other companies tried that, they'd be laughed off the stage and vilified in the tech media.
