Control-click > Create Archive always creates a ZIP file. Can I make it create an SITX file instead?
Those SITX files are the stuff of StuffIt Deluxe ($79.99, www.stuffit.com) - it's a proprietary format that you can only create via StuffIt Deluxe. The good news is that installing StuffIt adds a Stuff (sitx) item to the contextual menu that appears when you Control-click a file, and if you pass an SITX archive on to someone who doesn't have StuffIt Deluxe on their Mac (or PC), they can download the nicely priced - as in free - StuffIt Expander (free, www.stuffit.com) to decompress the files.

why does anyone want to use Stuffit? you can use Compress (free) to archive your file in tar, zip, bzip2, gzip, zip, and even p7zip formats with a drag-and-drop interface, and use The Unarchiver to open virtually evertyhing except .sitx at the moment.
