Even though Myfav.es doesn't offer nearly the same level of customization as Netvibes or uStart, it's certainly the most attractive homepage alternative. The entire interface is streamlined, adding large icon blocks on the screen to represent favorite sites or social feeds instead of list-filled widgets. More importantly, the toned-down design means Myfav.es looks great on the iPhone's smaller screen for mobile access.

Netvibes offers a huge amount of options to spice up your homepage. The interface is easy to use, features customizable themes, and a wide assortment of widgets. Netvibes also has the ability to create public pages; handy social feeds that don't even require a sign-in. Unless something significantly better comes along this year, large droves of iGoogle devotees will likely move to Netvibes for their homepage.

Protopage does offer a slight advantage in terms of customization. If you're the type of person who feels the need to make sure your homepage look exactly as desired, the backgrounds and the widget colors are fully changeable. While Protopage maintains most of the "everything on one page" set-up, it offers few widgets. And even with the ability to customize the page's variables, its appearance is a bit rougher around the edges.

Very similar to Netvibes, uStart feels like a fairly comfortable transition from iGoogle. The page's elements are laid out through drag-and-drop widgets, though the selection isn't quite up to par with Netvibes. Adding and browsing through RSS feeds is simple, committing your favorite feeds to a widget, while clicking a tab opens up a full run-down much like Google Reader.

Google's steady improvements to its very own browser probably has more to do with iGoogle's demise than anything else. Loading up Chrome, you're greeted with a list of "most-visited" sites, large icon blocks for apps, and of course the black navigation bar atop Google pages. While it's certainly not as all-encompassing as iGoogle, when it's so simple to access every RSS feed, Gmail account, and social network, do we really need iGoogle anymore?
