We got our hands on a Verizon iPhone this week, boy did we, and we put it through its paces, but good. And that's not all that happened this week and you know what else we did? Yes, you do. We rounded up all the news you're just dying to know about just in case you missed it.
Features:
- Palm Strikes Back: HP Unveils a Trio of New webOS devices - At last. We knew that there was something going to come out of HP snapping up Palm and their webOS, and good for them too. The more players we have on the field, the likelier we are to foster competition and ideas. Sure, Palm failed to deliver, hardware-wise, on the promise that the software imagined, but we're sure HP is up to the task. And with three devices arriving soon, we expect smart new thinking.
- Sony Ericsson Xperia Play: The PlayStation Arrives on a Phone - Playstation on a phone? Well, what did you expect? It was only a matter of time. Convergence is where it's at and if you like mobile devices, you want to carry just one, one device to bind them. Sony decided to see if they could snare some of that lucrative mobile market by getting a little chocolate -- we mean phone -- in their PS3 peanut butter. Will it work? Hmmm.
How-Tos:
- How to Secure Flash Drive Files with Disk Utility - While optical drives are slowly dying, flash drives, thumb drives, jump drives, call them what you will, are here for a while yet -- dash the cloud! And yes, you have a lot of important data there on your bite sized bit of computing. Any tips on securing it Mac-style? Why, yes, yes there is.
- How To Set Up a Cross-Platform To-Do List with Google Tasks - If you're a power user, skip this, because you want all kinds of tweaks and settings and availability and so on. If you just want a list you jot on a post-it and stick to your iPhone's screen, this is clearly not for you either. But if you want something that's going to hook you up with mobile and desktop and gadget based to-do action, Google Tasks has that kind of flexibility.
Reviews:
- Time Geeks Review - It looks like a game from yesteryear but plays like a game from tomorrow. Time Geeks has the chops to keep you at it for weeks and weeks, but when you first get started it'll remind you of classic Donkey Kong, when Mario was nothing but a blocky blob climbing a ladder.
- The Daily Review - It's been hyped and discussed out the ying-yang, the iPad's very first periodical with subscription model and so forth, and that's all fine and good. How does it look and feel? Well, in a word, gorgeous, but we're talking about the first in the next generation of digital magazines. What's inside? That's what matters. Well, we are talking about Rupert Murdoch here...
News:
We don't know. After the Verizon iPhone dropped and a certain double-hockey-sticks kinda place froze over, did anything else happen? Well, let's see... Sony decided that they'd try to play tough guy after their ebook reader got dumped by the App Store by threatening to pull all their music from iTunes but we'll believe it when it happens...meanwhile, we're far more stoked about was is coming the App Store, meaning Double Dragon, the NES classic butt-kicking times two...what we'd like to see coming to the iPhone itself is what tons of people want, some kind of management the notification system with its gazillion pop ups and piled stack...while we wait on that, let's hope we can beat your scores on the literal scores of games out there on sale today and not just from bedroom developers but from gamimg giants....you know what is coming to stores, and we mean brick'n'mortar? More Apple laptops and fewer of most other guys'...meanwhile, what we don't ever want to see in any stores? this particular jailbreak that coughs up all your iPhone's passwords...and remember what we said about Sony getting more into phones? Well, this where it's going, folks...speaking of bringing it to the App Store, how 'bout the 90's classic, Marathon? Yeah, we thought you'd dig that.
And the adventures of our own Nic Vargus started with live updates and you were on the edge of your seats....then we went to the amazing unboxing adventure....then it was time to test that baby out and we went straight to the speed action with an AT&T v. Verizon showdown...then we were right up in the mobile hotspot action because we've had a serious case of lust for this feature since day one...and even though we sent our intrepid Nic and Ray tag team duo to wait in line, the Verizon launch didn't quite have the same fan appreciation as does the usual new handset launch; we'll see what happens come June when the iPhone 5 drops -- on both networks.
