News:
Can you hear us...now? Sure, it's Super Bowl Sunday, and your humble correspondents expect this news round up to drop right down into a dark, lonely chasm of silence, just like half our calls on AT&T. (ZING! We're here all week. Be sure to tip your bartender.) That doesn't mean that duty fails to call or that plenty of Mac geeks who could care less about football won't be scouring the intertoobz for distractions from Bud Bowl and the Black Eyed Peas. It also doesn't mean that our editors aren't breathing down our necks, so without further ados, here comes da newz!
It seems like half our news stories this week featured former Apple BFF and now hot-n-cold rival, Google, as the search engine giant continued marching into the App Store with Google Shopper...then rolling our Instant Previews for Mobile Safari...then hooking us up with some seriously great art with the Google Art Project...then there's Android tablet's bumping up their tablet numbers with 22 percent of the market, chipping away at the iPad...what does the Woz have to say about that? Well, he's kinda not really keeping his opinions to himself, now is he?...and one of our own editors doesn't think much of Honeycomb and what it's supposed to bring for the Android tablet market...though win some, lose some, it seems Microsoft has jumped ship on the Google-backed WebM and solidified their stand with H.264 as the online codec for the win...for the online money cha-ching for yourself, here's a little way to hook yourself up with some Google AdSense (even in iWeb); your blog just might someday buy you a cup of coffee...and if you are watching football today, you're likely to see this ad during one of the commercial breaks, provided you're not making a beer run. In it, Motorola makes with the historical comparison angle.
One other story cropped up pretty strong this week. The first is just the mopping up after Verizon destroyed the news with the iPhone 4 rocking their network. Turns out it was pretty popular, with pre-orders selling out faster than anything the carrier's ever seen...and the reviews hit pretty much what we expected, with voice crushing AT&T while data lags...and Best Buy will begin carrying both the Verizon and AT&T iPhone 4 starting February 10th...and Verizon brought out the big guy for the crushing ad, "Yes, I Can Hear You -- Now."
