How To Install RAM
MacBook Pro

Remember to push in the RAM from the middle.
Before you start, you’ll need to gather a Phillips #00 screwdriver and a spudger. Start by turning over your MacBook Pro and removing all 10 screws. Remove the cover; you’ll see that the RAM is located right next to the battery switch (unhook this before proceeding), right above the battery. Push the tabs on either side of the RAM outward, and it’ll immediately pop up. Carefully pull each SO-DIMM out toward you. Repeat this step for the RAM seated on the bottom. Then insert the new RAM by pushing each stick in and pressing down until you hear a click-pop. Make sure that the RAM is properly seated before sealing it up; otherwise your Mac won’t start.

iMac

Carefully pull the RAM straight out of the slot.
Before you start, you’ll need to gather a Phillips #1 screwdriver and a spudger. After unhooking all cables, hold the sides of the iMac and slowly lay it down. Remove the three screws securing the RAM access door on the bottom part of the display, then carefully pull it out to remove it. Use the sharp tip of the spudger to gently pull out the black tabs out of the memory bay. Then pull the black plastic RAM tab toward you to eject the RAM module. Grab the SO-DIMM by its edges and pull it straight out of the slot, repeating this process for the second module (if there is one). Then insert your new RAM. You should hear a slight click when it’s properly seated. Tuck the tags back in and reseal the memory access door.

Mac Pro

Unplug your Mac. Pull the tab on the back up toward you, then carefully remove the side panel door. Latches on the processor door can be pulled out and toward you to reveal the seated RAM. The slots should be filled in chronological order with no gaps in between, based on the two nifty diagrams from Apple (below).

Make sure that your DIMMs are properly seated before reinstalling the processor tray. Push it in until the latches are at a 45-degree angle, then close them and replace the side panel.

Mac mini

RAM in the Mac mini works just like the MacBook Pro.
Like the MacBook Pro, the RAM inside the Mac mini uses zero insertion force. Simply place your thumbs in the appropriate depressions on either side of the Mac mini’s bottom cover, then rotate counter-clockwise to open it. Pop the RAM out by releasing the tabs on each side and then pulling the chip out of its socket. Repeat this for the second RAM chip. Then follow these instructions in reverse order to get everything installed.
