Firefox Download Day
Starting at 10AM PDT, Mozilla wants the entire universe to download the official release of Firefox 3.
Dubbed "Download Day," Mozilla is hoping to break the Guinness World Record for the most software downloaded in one day.
If you feel like joining the hip crowd and smashing a made up world record click here and download away. If you have better things to do, like work, you can sit on the sidelines and make snarky remarks about how [insert random browser here] is cooler.

I'm finding a host of character- and line-spacing problems with the new Firefox. One example is the header of this very page which, when refreshed, is highly compressed in the new Firefox, with the letters on top of one another -- and it's fine in Safari. In addition, all the standard fonts for MacLife.com headers aren't rendering correctly, as they do in Safari. It appears that Firefox 3.0 is bewildered by CSS data.
Also, my personal resume site and blog (www.myslewski.com) experiences multiple character-rendering problems (mostly too-wide kerning), and line breaks now appear where they're clearly not in the code. Serious problems. Firefox 3.0 is apparently not ready for my dual 2.7GHz G5 running 10.5.3 and a plain-vanilla video card.
So now I have my work cut out for me tomorrow, trying to figure out why Firefox 3.0 makes me look like I don't know how to write simple HTML. If my clients move to Firefox 3.0, I'm going to look like an idiot, even if everything on my site renders perfectly in Firefox 2.x and Safari 3.x.
Sigh...
Thanks, Mozilla.

So, I installed Firefox 3.0 on a couple of other Macs here at Chez Polonaise, and none of them exhibit the same problems as does Firefox on my dual 2.7GHz Power Mac G5 running OS 10.5.3. Yes, I've dumped and rebuilt all the appropriate plist and other support files, cleared all caches (including System-font caches), but I'm still experiencing what appear to be CSS problems.
Any suggestions from anyone?
