Free the iPhone -- For Free, Newton Serial Terminal and Woz Parodies Himself For a Good Cause
Posted 09/12/2007 at 11:23:21am | by Mac|Life Staff

iPhone hackers keep it free: Remember that $99 you were saving up to unlock your iPhone? Well now you can use it to get Guitar Hero III for your Mac. iUnlock will do it for you for free. That's right, free. The brave souls over at Engadget unlocked their iPhone using the method and report it's update proof. The only downside, so far, is the loss of the YouTube program. You can thank the folks over on the iPhone Dev Team for the hack.

Mac|Life disclaimer alert -- There is always a chance you can brick your phone when you hack it. If implementing the hack takes your iPhone from totally rad to totally sad, don't say we didn't warn you.

Viva Newton: Dust off that Newton eMate 300, we just found another use for it. While everyone is going gaga over the possibilities of the iPod touch becoming a PDA through a series of elaborate hacks, BYTECellar is giving the original Apple PDA a new life as a UNIX serial terminal for his Mac mini. Maybe it won't play the latest Muse music video, but watch it log into telnet.

Woz is awesome: Woz recreated his famous Datsun 280Z ad for a good cause. Woz is using a faux-mercial to sell his new Nissan 350Z. With only 8,700 miles on it, the car is awesome. The winner will also get lunch with the Apple co-founder, though it might be BYOS. (Bring Your Own Segway.) All proceeds will be donated to the IEEE lab at U.C. Berkeley for education and equipment.

Attack of the iClones: Before Apple had released the iPhone in America, Asian customers were already chatting away on their iClones. Selling for a fraction of the real iPhone's retail price, the Chinese iPhone, is the Asian market's answer to Apple delaying the iPhone release till 2008 in Asia.

One Million iPhones: Concerned Apple won't sell 10 million iPhones by the end of 2008. According to Seeking Alpha, you shouldn't be. Whew, that's a load off our minds.

And Finally: Feeling left out in this crazy world of rock star millionaires. Well, Count Dante can change all that for you. We've already signed up to become martial arts millionaires.
