If you’re on the go and frequently need to access files from the Mac in your home or office, you might be looking at a cloud-based solution like Dropbox or SugarSync. But did you know there’s a way to access all of your Mac files through the internet from any web browser or iOS device and even share them with others?
Formerly known as FarFinder, developer Adrian Ross recently rebranded his cloudless remote access software as Presence, adding a metric ton of great new features to the $40 Mac application -- including a free universal iOS app that allows you to access and share all of the files on your Mac from anywhere you have an internet connection.
Presence is not a cloud storage solution -- instead, your own Mac becomes your personal cloud, accessible through any web browser on another Mac or PC as well as the iPad, iPhone or iPod touch. This also isn’t a VNC solution, although you’ll have full access to all of your files and folders and can share the same with others without having to upload them first to a service like Dropbox or SugarSync.
Perhaps the only disadvantage of Presence is that you’re required to leave your Mac running in order for the software to be able to access its files, but these days many users do this anyway and thanks to the lower power consumption of recent models, it won’t put a ding in your electric bill to do so.
We pulled together a gallery of 10 cool things you can do with Presence, so read on and visit the Flying Mac website if you’re ready to check it out -- the developer offers a 20 day free trial, so you can see if the app is right for you before buying.
