6 Games That Will Look Amazing on the New iPad

The iPad 2 helped push tablet gaming ahead thanks to its A5 processor and increased RAM, but it's the new iPad that should offer the largest advancement to date, thanks to the unbelievable 2048x1536 Retina display -- four times that of the earlier iPads -- not to mention the advanced A5X processor, reported increase in RAM, and optional support for 4G networks. Only a couple of new games were shown at Apple's event yesterday, but we've pinpointed a few of the best-looking current iPad releases that we expect to shine even brighter on the new tablet. If you're planning on picking up a new iPad, here are six beautiful games that can show off its impressive tech.

Infinity Blade is the biggest original iOS action franchise, and Epic Games will leverage the brand later this year with Infinity Blade: Dungeons, a dungeon-crawling, hack-and-slash spinoff prequel that'll be enhanced for for the new iPad. Expect fantastic, smooth, and high-resolution visuals, along with plenty of weapons to craft and enemies to slay.

Sky Gamblers: Air Supremacy is a modern combat flight game that built upon the name of last year's World War I-themed Sky Gamblers: Rise of Glory, and it promises to take advantage of the new iPad with sleek planes and airspace filled with loads of aggressive enemies. Namco Bandai says the game will ship this month, making it one of the earliest test cases for the new iPad's capabilities.

Spirits is already an incredibly gorgeous game on iPad 2, thanks to hand-drawn visuals that recall the ethereal wonder of anime master Hayao Miyazaki's work, but it promises to look better than ever on the new iPad. Developer Spaces of Play conceptualized an HD version earlier this week (via Touch Arcade), and the added detail is a truly brilliant touch.

Currently the most beautiful 3D game on iPad 2, Infinity Blade II is sure to get a visual bump from Chair Entertainment, especially since that team isn't working on the Dungeons spinoff. Stunning locations and impeccably rendered warriors make this a treat on any iOS device, but we fully expect Epic Games and Chair to generate even more bells and whistles for Apple's latest tablet.

Firemint is another developer that likes to stay on the iOS cutting edge, thanks to regular and free visual and feature updates, and its Real Racing 2 HD-- already the best racing game for iPad -- is certain to be updated to look even more amazing thanks to the new iPad's Retina display and A5X processor. It's already a treat, but one that we fully expect to improve further.

Like a Gears of War game on the go, Shadowgun serves up over-the-shoulder, cover-based shooting thrills on both iPad and iPhone, and features some of the best lighting and visuals seen on either device. It looks great on every platform it's been adapted to, and we'd wager that this slick shooter will be another winning showcase option for the new iPad.
