Keep Pages Readable
God bless the website coders, constantly trying to cram more text on a page by shrinking the font size ever smaller. If your eyes are tired, aging or simply want more legible type, head to Preferences > Advanced and select the Universal Access setting “Never use font sizes smaller than XX.” You’ll have to type in a number (12 is a good start) and may not work for all sites, but your eyes will thank you.

Get Back Lost Tabs
Recover from a Safari crash quickly by having the web browser reopen all of the tabs you had open before the accursed event took place. While not quite as intuitive as Firefox, selecting History > Reopen All Windows from Last Session should get things back to the way they were so you can click away again to your heart’s content.

Changing Search Engines on the Fly
Rapid-fire searching can be yours. Need Google? Pull! Want to check the same results on Bing? Pull! Sure that Yahoo can find what you need? Pull! There’s no need to go to Preferences to change your search engine selection -- simply pull down the magnifying glass in your search field and under your history you’ll find all three choices. You won’t even have to retype your search text!

Save Images Quickly
Perfect for saving photos of the new baby or a friend’s pet, Safari holds a wide range of secrets within its Control-Click submenu, including “Add Image to iPhoto Library” for saving the image in question straight to iPhoto and “Use Image as Desktop Picture” for that awesome imagery that would make a perfect backdrop for your Mac. Just be sure you’re clicking on an image or you won’t see these options pop up.

Save Opened PDFs
Safari 5 is pretty great on its own for reading PDF files, but what’s less obvious is the browser’s ability to save them directly to your Downloads folder. To make the magic happen, simply move your mouse cursor to the bottom center of the browser window while a PDF is open -- a small box will appear with controls to zoom in or out of the file, save it to iPhone or directly to disk. Isn’t that simple?

Switch Between Reader and RSS
Safari 5 introduced an awesome Reader mode, enabled by simply clicking in the box that pops up in the URL field. But what about the RSS view, which used to reside in the same space? Turns out Apple left the feature intact, but hidden -- click and hold on the Reader icon and you’ll be presented with the option to change back to RSS view. (Use the same trick to get back to Reader again.)
