Excised from iOS 6 alongside Google's Maps, YouTube (free) now exists as a downloadable third-party app, and it's one of the biggest must-have apps to still lack support for the iPhone 5's screen. Not only is the navigation hampered by black borders, but so too are the videos themselves, which is the real issue -- especially since the display is perfect for widescreen clips.

Skype (free) is another key iPhone app that's oddly behind on iPhone 5 optimization, which is particularly pressing considering its video chat functionality. Certainly, we'd love to fill that four-inch frame with our friends and family, but as of now, those pesky borders are still in the way. With luck, this essential communication app will be tweaked sooner than later.

Sports nuts the world over rely on ESPN ScoreCenter (free) for up-to-the-minute updates on their favorite leagues, teams, players, and matches, but the noteworthy score-tracking and video app still has't been optimized for the iPhone 5. Kevin Garnett once famously proclaimed that "Anything is possible," but full-screen usage currently is not. Sorry, Kevin.

Well, this is awkward. All of Apple's first-party apps got their big, bright updates on day one -- well, all except for Apple Store (free). Many of the folks who stayed up late to pre-order the iPhone 5 did so via the app, but actually running the thing in full-screen on the device? Not a thing! It might not be a huge priority, but Apple should have its full fleet running strong on iPhone 5.

Angry Birds Space ($0.99) is the biggest iPhone game of the year, but it's not yet ready for the iPhone 5. This trend actually extends to all Rovio apps, including the earlier Angry Birds games, Amazing Alex, and even Bad Piggies, which launched after the phone did! You'd think Rovio would be first in line for this sort of thing, yet we're still scratching our heads over the delay.

Both Twitter and Facebook were luckily ready to roll from the start, but the business-minded professional network LinkedIn (free) is still biding its time without an iPhone 5-capable app. Curiously enough, the company has updated the app since the phone's launch to add iOS 6 support, yet the app itself seems awfully cramped without making use of that bonus space.

We love Spotify, the streaming music subscription service that pumps millions of songs into our earholes, especially with LTE easing the occasional connection woes. But we want to see all of that great album artwork on the full screen, plus the interface could use that extra room. It took a long time for Spotify to hit iPad; hopefully it'll be a shorter wait for this iPhone 5 update.
