Once the novelty of tossing letters from our iPhones to our iPads wore off, the shortcomings of Scrabble for iPad ($9.99) became all too clear; other word-tile games have handily topped it since. Even if we overlook the bugs, we can't get past the Facebook shackles that block us from using our EA Origin accounts like we do on our iPhones. And a little retina support wouldn't hurt, either.

We do this out of love. Long ago, we cleared every achievement in Tiny Wings ($0.99, iPhone) and haven't played it in months. Ski Safari and other such similar games are nice, but nothing can top the original coin-grabbing affair -- and we'd sure like to see a few new levels. And iPad support.

For all the things Apple does so well, its bundled apps are (for the most part) serviceable utilities that we'd like to be able to delete. Weather, Stocks, Game Center, even Mail -- they all do what they're supposed to do, but not often more. But Notes, with its lame fonts, cutesy interface, and limited features, is at the top of the list. We're not even sure an update will help, but it's worth a try.

Even if you're not a Facebook junkie, you know that the official app (Free, Universal) has been a consistent letdown. Even after waiting forever for a stable iPhone release and a native iPad version, the Facebook app never quite got it right. We're confident all that iOS 6 integration will give them a little extra motivation to clean up the UI, squash the bugs, and let us access our timelines.

We love ScoreCenter on our iPhones, but we're not quite sure what happened with ScoreCenter XL (Free, iPad). Starting with an ugly, frame-laden interface, ESPN's flagship app provides obligatory live scores and stats, but it's lacking a number of the things that make the iPhone app great, including social media connectivity, easy access to video highlights, and the slick Gamecast engine.

We have no complaints about LinkedIn's (Free, Universal) interface, but we can't get past the privacy issues: As they clearly state, they must "send information about your calendar events to our servers." Unencrypted, that is. Sure, we can opt out (which kills syncing), but we feel uneasy about trusting a company that recently misplaced 6.5 million passwords.

A Twitter (Free, Universal) app is fairly indispensable these days, and we all had high hopes when Twitter opted to buy the terrific Tweetie app instead of building its own solution. But we didn't know that Twitter planned on stripping away the best parts of Tweetie, forcing us to look elsewhere for our tweeting needs. We cross our fingers each time we see an update, but it only seems to get worse.

Microsoft has taken the meaning of OneNote a bit too literally with its iPad (Free) app: No templates. No ability to create notebooks. No inking. No drawing tools. No font choices. We keep expecting an update to bring at least one of these missing features, but no such luck. If Microsoft treats the rest of the Office suite like this on iOS, we'll be sticking with Quickoffice.
