Hi, I've loaded ios7 successfully on to my iphone. I've had a few app updates come through which I've loaded up successfully. On the old system once the apps updates had loaded they would disappear from the App store folder. But now they just sit there with an open button. I can't see a way to get rid of them. They're steadily accumulating already, 2 from yesterday and 5 today. How can I clear these down please?

Many thanks, Michael!

I went through the tips in about 4 sittings - newly updated iPhone 5 in hand. Some I had already found on my own (thanks for keeping it intuitive, Apple!) but was glad to discover a number of things that I may not have been seeking for a while, but now know that they are there. And I agree with several of the comments that it certainly feels to be operating faster than before - may or may not be true, but I'm very happy with the upgrade thus far.

Always enjoy your articles!!

When swiping apps up to close them, if you want to close more than one, you can close 2 or 3 in the same time using 2-3 fingers. You're welcome!

Tip No. 39!

Hi Michael:

While playing videos today using "Music" icon, I was watching a video playlist and when I went to landscape it did not switch the video window, nor could I expand to fill the screen as I could before. The videos work fine using the "Videos" icon, however won't play in series and I have to select each one...any ideas?

I think that's a "feature." Landscape mode in Music is reserved for that new album cover collage, so everything else plays in portrait.

Does anyone know if I can get rid of the Gray bar at the bottom of the home page on my iPad? I did the 7 update and now wish I had waited.... It is too dark and just plain ugly....

avatar

Michael Simon

Not sure what you mean. In Safari?

Christine Rusty...

Sorry....I'm the person who calls the flash drive "the computer sticky thing". On the home page of the iPad at the bottom where some of your icons are, it's now an ugly gray background....

If you mean the icon dock, there's a translucency in iOS 7 that changes with the wallpaper you select. Maybe you just have a background that's too dark? If I'm still missing your question, feel free to send me a screenshot over Twitter to @morlium.

Oh, I hate to be that person...

...but I found another typo:

16. Ad it up
As long as we're using connected devices, we're never going to completely free ourselves of prying eyes looking to sell us things we don't want, but Apple at least allows us to lesson their visibility in iOS 7. Over in the Privacy settings, you'll find a toggle to limit as tracking, and in Safari, there's a do not track button. We'll wait while you go turn them on.

Well, to be honest... I lied. I love being that person.

Ha-ha. Thanks.

Thank you for sharing these cool new iOS7 features. As an avid Apple user, I'll be sure to use 90% of them. Updated my iPad 4th Generation and iPhone 5 and they work great with a nice facelift. They feel like new devices and both run so smooth. I can only imagine how good the iPhone 5S will run! Much props to all your articles. What's up with that guy throwing "f" bombs in here? haha The Apple Eco system just got better :D

Michael, a little typo that just caught my eye in your article, and you might want to fix it, though it is funny:

11. Heads up
Our iPhones can do so many amazing things we never thought possible, and Apple has added one more to that list with iOS 7's new Switch Control function. While most of us won't be using it very often, it allows the screen to be consoled by head movements for those with limited control of their hands. Head over to the Accessibility settings to turn it on.

Not sure there's a way to print/copy one of these galleries. But maybe one of the web guys that know more than me will see your comment...

Hi Michael, I thought I'd be the first to Thank You for all the work put into writing these tips for iOS 7.0.
I find them very useful. I want to mention how much faster my iPhone seems to run with the new OS. Is there a way to copy them with pictures and all to my iPhone or iPad?

Thanks again.
