There are almost no words to describe how much fun Tetris was back in the 80's and early 90's. Or how much collective time was wasted on it. Now factor in Quinn, a free variant of Tetris for Mac OS X, complete with the tetrad shapes, the increased pace per level, and online gameplay features.

Take a gander at Ambrosia Software's SketchFighter 4000 Alpha, an interesting revamp of a classic arcade style game. Complete with cool graphics, a nifty audio track, good controls, multiplayer gameplay and a level editor, this is worth checking out, if only to save the universe in the process.

Germs

There's always room for a good puzzle/tile-clearing game. And if that puzzle/tile-clearing game happens to feature disgusting animated organisms, so much the better. Enter Germs, Factor Software's shareware title in which you have to clear various animated germs from a tile board while matching a removal pattern, the game throwing random obstacles and power-ups your way as the game progresses.

Back in the late 90's and early 2000s, there was Bungie's "Myth" series. And oh man was it good. Between a killer AI, cool graphics, amazing sound, awesome gameplay, rich storyline and dwarves blowing up the undead with molotov cocktails, you had it all.

It came out of nowhere last year and made Rovio enough money that a Scrooge McDuck-esque money bin now seems like a practical investment. Still, it's a great way to waste time.
