Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
This is the poster child for the GameFly downloadable rental service, and there are few games they could have picked that would make us more enticed to try it out. The Assassin’s Creed series is one of the most high-profile, high-quality gaming series in the world. Gaining the permissions to feature this game is a huge victory for GameFly.

Assassin’s Creed 2
The only thing better would be its predecessor, Assassin’s Creed 2. Though actually a year older than Brotherhood, Assassin’s Creed 2 is arguably the better game. It doesn’t feature Brotherhood’s unique online modes, but the story is far more cohesive, and the action can be more fun. Brotherhood is great, but it often feels like a rehash of the great moments from Assassin’s Creed 2.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent
While it relies heavily on that most overused of all dramatic tropes -- memory loss -- Amnesia was one of the finest games to come out of 2010. It’s a horror game that is quite unlike most other horror games. Rather than jamming your pockets full of gigantic weaponry, Amnesia tries to make you feel weak rather than powerful.

Two Worlds II
The original Two Worlds was an absolute disgrace, and developer Reality Pump knew it. So they approached Two Worlds 2 humbly and ultimately fixed most of what was wrong with the first game. It’s a massive open-world fantasy game that still has a few problems, but is still quite a bit of fun. There aren’t too many other games like it on the Mac. If you like fantasy role-playing games, then this will definitely be one to check out when the service launches.

Sid Meier’s Civilization V
In the world of strategy games there are very few names bigger than Civilization. The classic society-building strategy game just got its latest installment last year, and it’s as good as it’s ever been. You can choose a peaceful path or a path of warlike dominance, and you'll confront historical figures and other civilizations from history on your path to glory.

Splinter Cell: Conviction
For the better part of a decade, Splinter Cell has been the number one title in the stealth action genre, and Splinter Cell: Conviction reaffirmed this series’ place at the top of the genre. The graphics are stunning and the game play is as smooth and immersive as it has ever been. If Ubisoft sees fit to bring this title to GameFly, along with the Assassin’s Creed series, we will definitely be snatching up the opportunity to play it again.

Duke Nukem Forever
Yes, Duke Nukem Forever is one of the worst reviewed games of 2011. It’s been called rampantly offensive, sloppy, and just generally poorly made by dozens of reviewers. And that’s precisely why we want it to come to GameFly. This way we’ll get to see one of the year’s most talked about games.

Frozen Synapse
This little indie game took a lot of people by surprise when it released earlier this year. It’s charmingly simple, but its simplicity hides a ton of depth. You have a team of soldiers, and you have to order them around on the map, trying to hunt down the other team. The catch is that you can only give them orders in 5-second increments, and then press play and watch how it plays out. To win you need to get inside your opponent’s head and anticipate their moves.

Torchlight
This game is essentially the heir-apparent to the Diablo-throne. Or rather a steward, holding the throne until Diablo returns. Torchlight brings us back to a time when fantasy RPGs were the number one selling games in the world, and we thank them for that. The premise is simple, but it’s deviously addictive and loads of fun.
