Over the course of the holidays, Chair's Infinity Blade came out and blew the iOS user base away (including us) by proving just how amazing a game could look on an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. By the time you'd fought your way through the castle time and time again, gradually leveling up your character and gaining weapons, armor, and magic items that could slay almost any opponent, you wanted more. And as of Thursday, Chair responded, releasing a free, full-fledged expansion to the title in the form of Infinity Blade: Arena.
Along with a slew of new rings, swords, shields, and helmets to collect and upgrade, and new chunks of the map to explore, the update also incorporates a new Arena mode, in which you can log on through Game Center and go head to head via a Titan or Knight character you create and customize the whole way through.
A new Survivor mode will make you wish for your regular gameplay potions and magic items, the game giving you one life to work with -- no chance of health regeneration -- and pushing you to see just how many Titans you can take down before you're finally defeated.
Finally, Infinity Blade has gone social, with full Facebook integration: Your character profile can be uploaded to your Facebook account for your full share of bragging rights. A slew of new unlockable achievements and leaderboards round out the picture, providing as many rewards as possible for the hours spent grinding your way up to an awesome new weapon, item, or piece of armor.
Infinity Blade is on sale for $2.99 for a limited time, and requires an iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch (third generation or later) or iPad running iOS 3.2. While playing through it, we took the screenshots below -- click any to see it larger.
