When you first launch Vimeo, you’ll be asked to share your location with the app. You need to agree to this for Vimeo to gain access to your video library. This is because the location information is embedded within the file and if you can’t read it, you can use the file. (iMovie requests the same information, so it’s not uncommon.) Once through this hurdle, you’ll have to sign into Vimeo with your account, or create a new one right within the app.

Tap on Recording, the second button from the left at the bottom of the screen. As you currently have no projects, you’ll be given the option of recording some footage or choosing clips from your Camera Roll. Tap on the red Plus button, at the top right. An empty project appears on your screen. Tap on it.

You’ll be offered a few options. Start by tapping on the Edit Title menu and rename your project. Your new titles isn’t saved by default, and if you were to tap on the Back button, it’ll revert to its previous name. Instead, tap on Save first.

To start editing, tap on the Open In Video Editor menu. The interface now works in Landscape mode. To add your first clip, notice the big Plus button to the right of the Video layer. Tap on it then select the type of media you’d like to add from the second menu.

The entire clip has been added. To trim it, tap on it to select it then drag either yellow handle inwards until you’re left with the portion you want. Repeat the import process to add a few more clips to your project.

Put two fingers on the timeline and bring them closer together to zoom out so you can see more of your project. Move them further apart to zoom in for more precise work. To reorder your clips, tap on one to select it then drag it to another location.

At either end of each clip is a gray square. Tap one to bring up transition options at the top-right of the screen. Swipe that menu to reveal a slider to set the transition’s length.

To add a title, tap the Plus button to the right of the Titles layer. Type in your text, choose the size, position on the screen, and color then tap Done to return to your editing. You can resize it and reposition it just like you did in Steps 5 and 6. To preview your edit, tap on the Preview screen at the top-left. (To watch your movie in full screen, tap on the resize button, top left again.)

To upload your film, tap the X at the top-right of the screen to get back to the project’s main menu. Tap Upload, choose whether to create a new video or replace an existing one, select the quality, and Vimeo will take care of the rest. If you’d rather save your work to your Camera Roll, select the Export command instead.
