E3 is coming to a close, but we've still got plenty of neat pictures to share with you all. Our experience at E3 this year was great fun, and we can't wait for next year. We certainly expected iOS gaming to take a bigger piece of the showcase this year, but it's clear that the platform still isn't getting the attention it deserves from the gaming public.
A few of the big publishers showcased some of their iOS wares right alongside their console games (EA mostly) but most companies relegated their iOS stuff to the sidelines if they displayed anything at all. It's a big first step for the platform as it's really the first platform to make even a small dent in the PC- and console-heavy E3 in a decade (since the Dreamcast, really). That said, we're hoping that next year will be even bigger.
If we could make a suggestion to the ESA (the owners of E3) it would be to reopen the smaller hall in the basement of the convention center, Kentia Hall. In the past years of E3 it served as a place for the underdogs and lesser known games. It was the place you went to find curiosities and oddities. This is the perfect place for all of the inventive indie developers currently working on iOS. There's zero possibility of these types of developers being able to afford a booth at E3 next to the million dollar displays of Nintendo and Sony. A low-key, low expense place could be perfect for bringing attention to the smaller-scale iOS games.
