1. No Network Required
Because AirDrop works by creating an ad-hoc (computer-to-computer) wireless network, you don’t need to be connected to a Wi-Fi connection. Simply launch AirDrop in the Finder and your Mac will begin searching for other AirDrop-compatible clients.

2. Queue Up Transfers
You can queue up multiple transfers to multiple clients by dragging items to the initial user icon, and then to the remaining users you’d like to send files to. AirDrop will wait until the initial transfer is done before fulfilling remaining transfer requests. When you check the status of the remaining transfers, they will say, “Waiting for transfer with ‘x user’ to complete...”

3. Send Multiple Files
By selecting and dragging multiple files to a single user icon in AirDrop, you will be able to send multiple files without the need to compress them into a single file.

4. See The Transfer Status in the Dock
While you are waiting on an AirDrop transfer to complete, the Downloads stack in the Dock will show you the current download status of the files. With just a quick glance, you will be able to see which file is currently transferring and how much of each file has been transferred.

5. Display Your Full Name
When a user has linked their Apple ID with their Lion account, you will be able to see their real name underneath the computer name in AirDrop. This is pretty nifty because you can see which user account the file will be transferred to, and you are ensuring that it is a trusted machine.

6. Remove AirDrop from Finder
Because AirDrop only turns on and activates whenever you click on the sidebar item, you can sort of disable it by hiding the sidebar icon. To do this, head to Finder > Preferences > Sidebar, and uncheck the box for AirDrop.
