Ugh, traffic. The TV warns us about it, the radio interrupts music with updates about it, and entire websites are dedicated to sharing the worst traffic situations. Even Google has gotten into the game of battling traffic woes with the Maps app. But if you really want to take on traffic while on the go, you should do yourself a favor and check out INRIX Traffic, a free, universal iOS app.

INRIX can help you decide when to leave to avoid the worst traffic on your favorite route.
In addition to the colored roads that indicate how long you’ll be sitting still, staring at the license plate of the car in front of you, the app uses the traffic history of a road, data about big events nearby, and even holiday and school schedules to predict the expected traffic at a set time. This is extremely helpful when you need to get somewhere unfamiliar by a certain time or when you’re trying to figure out what time to leave the office and have the quickest ride home.

Big buttons let you report real-time conditions without taking your eyes off the road for too long.
INRIX Traffic doesn’t just rely on real-time information from the company’s network of road sensors, delivery fleets, and state highway agencies—it also gives users the ability to share information about the road they’re on. If the app is showing that a road is green and free flowing and you’ve been staring at the same exit sign for five minutes, you can report that the color is wrong. You can also report accidents to help your fellow travelers avoid a route. The latest version even has a comparative traffic feature that highlights routes that are more or less congested than usual.

Green means go!
It can’t move your house closer to your job, but on more than one occasion, the INRIX Traffic app has kept us from being trapped in our cars with its traffic-prediction feature and real-time traffic reports.
