Pages is an application with many uses, from page layout to word processing, but it’s more than likely that you use it for one task more than anything else. Whether it’s writing essays, sending letters or creating a newsletter, the chances are you head back to Pages time and again to create the same document. Before you begin creating, however, there’s normally some housekeeping to be done.
You might prefer to have the Styles Drawer open so you can quickly change page elements, or perhaps you like to have Layout turned on to see how your document fits together. At the very least, you’ll want a basic template to work from rather than just a blank canvas that forces you to start from scratch. Rather than saving a document to work from each time, a template is far more convenient and helps you avoid saving over a file by mistake when working in this way.

Create your own template in Pages and speed up your workflow.
By making your own templates, you can quickly start the process of creating without having to worry about your settings or page design when you open your document.
Even if you use one of Apple’s own templates as a starting point, you can customize it to your liking and save it as a document you can access each time you launch Pages. When a document is saved as a template, it appears in Pages’ Template Chooser too, just like the default templates, so starting your work from a convenient position is only a couple of clicks away.
In this tutorial we’ll show you how to build your new template, save it and access it from the Template Chooser so you can work faster in Pages when it comes to the projects you use most often.
