How to Enable MMS on Your iPhone (Updated)
Posted 09/25/2009 at 12:15:28pm | by Roberto Baldwin

MMS is here, now how the hell do you get it to work? We got your back. (Unless you have a first generation iPhone. Sorry.)

Enable MMS

- Plug your iPhone into iTunes.

- Click on "Check for Updates"

- You should see the dialog box above. Download and install that magical .ipcc file.

- After the update--which should take no time at all--you'll get the dialog box that your carrier settings have been updated.

 - Unplug your iPhone and turn it off.

- Turn it back on.

-Navigate to the Messages app (the one you use to send SMS).

- Behold the power of the tiny camera icon.

- Send your signifigant other a picture of yourself. Make sure it's safe for work.

You can also send MMS via the Photos app.

-Launch the Photos app

- Tap on the share button.

- Tap to select a photo, or photos, to send.

-Tap on share.

-Boom! The MMS button is alive in the dialog box that appears.

Send the magics!

Finally, maybe you hate MMS. You can turn it off.

- Navigate to Settings > Messages.

- There you can turn off MMS.

Have Fun!

UPDATE: Commenter wingnut03370 points out tht you can also send contacts and voice memos via MMS.

For Contacts:

Launch the Contacts app, find the personyou want to share and tap on Share Contact for the MMS screen to appear.

For Voice Memos:

Launch Voice Memos, navigate to the audio you want to share and click on the Share button.

Are you seeing a pattern here?

avatarWorks Great, loving it

I have downloaded, rebooted the phone and it works superbly well. Thanks, AT&T. This will come in handy. And thanks, too, to Apple.

avatarDoesn't work if your friends haven't updated

I've tried sending photos to three iPhone friends who haven't done the upgrade yet and they don't get the text message, so you might need to nudge them to do so.

avatarsending contact and voice message

just the same as the picture or video.
open contact hit share choose mms and send to who you want.
when you get one on the iphone you can save as new or add to connect you already have.

the video quality that is sent is not as good as what the camera can capture.

avatarOK, what about audio files (and no I don't mean songs)?

I record phone messages on my Mac and would like to send them to my iPhone as an MMS.It allows for iPhone VoiceMemo audio files to be sent by MMS, but I can't find a way to send an audio file (even a saved VoiceMemo) to my iPhone?I must be missing something??Jim
