First we'll take a look at Safari. Click next to learn how to browse privately with Safari, and permanently delete browsing history.

Private browsing works by not recording the pages you visit, your search history, or your AutoFill information. To start private browsing in Safari, click Safari > Private Browsing.

The resulting pop up window will let you know about Private Browsing. To continue starting the private browsing session, click on the OK button.

You will know private browsing is turned on because a "Private" icon will appear to the right-side of the address bar in Safari.

To turn off Private Browsing in Safari, click on the "Private" icon that appears in the address bar. In the drop-down dialog, select OK to stop Private Browsing.

To completely delete the browsing history in Safari, navigate to Safari > Reset Safari. Check all of the options and click Reset to completely nix all of the browsing data in Safari.

Like Safari, Firefox features private browsing and the ability to erase your history. Click next to learn how to browse privately with Firefox, and permanently delete browsing history.

To begin a private browsing session in Firefox, navigate to Tools > Start Private Browsing. You can also enable it by pressing Shift + Command + P.

The resulting dialog will confirm your decision to start private browsing. Click the "Start Private Browsing" button to start a new session.

Private browsing will then be enabled in Firefox and none of your browsing data will be recorded. You will know it is enabled because of the small mask that appears to the left of the address bar.

To stop private browsing in Firefox, click Tools > Stop Private Browsing or press Command + Shift + P again on the keyboard.

To delete all of the browsing data in Firefox, navigate to Tools > Clear Recent History. From the resulting dialog, delete "Everything" as the time range to clear, and then check all of the options in the details section before clicking the "Clear Now" button.

Sure Google tracks you like a wild beast, but that doesn't mean their browser doesn't come equipped with the same features as Firefox and Safari. Click next to learn how to browse privately with Chrome, and permanently delete browsing history.

Chrome's private browsing feature is called "Incognito mode." To start this mode, click File > New Incognito Window.

The Incognito window will then open, giving you a few pointers for private browsing. As long as you open new tabs within the Incognito window (the one with the detective figure in the top-right corner of the window), your browsing will remain private. Close this window when you're done with private browsing.

To delete browsing history in Chrome, navigate to Chrome > Clear Browsing Data, or press Shift + Command + Delete on your keyboard. In the new page that opens, select "the beginning of time" from the drop-down time frame selection and check all of the data options before clicking the "Clear Browsing Data" button.
