For the past few years, whenever I launch iPhoto, I get a popup that there are “3 photos that have not been recovered.” This happens without any devices plugged in to my Mac, and there are no photos displayed in the recovery window. What can I do to correct this problem?

Who decides the writing on these error messages, anyway?
This error can be caused by various things, but can commonly be cause when upgrading iPhoto versions. Luckily, the issue can be fixed with relatively little pain. Follow the steps below to ensure you won’t see this error message any longer.

Usually a folder called Import in the iPhoto Library will cause this problem.
First, quit iPhoto. Then in the Finder, go to your home directory, open the Pictures folder, and right-click iPhoto Library. From the shortcut menu, choose Show Package Contents. Look for a folder called Recovered Photos, Import, or Importing. Move this folder (or folders) to your desktop, and close the Finder window. Open iPhoto again, and the error message should be gone. After you’re sure that iPhoto is working properly, you can import the photos in the folders you put on your desktop, or just delete them.
