Please correct me if i am wrong here, but regardless of you having a 3G or a WiFi connection,
a message can be sent as an SMS and NOT as an iMessage when the recipient has no internet access at that time.
So, if the recipient is "on line" then the iMessage is delivered, if not then your iPhone sends it as an SMS.

I knew you could turn that off.

This saves bundles when you live in a border area. For example, I work on the German side of the border, but live in the Holland side. My cell service is in Germany so if I have to text my wife in Holland, I prefer iMessage. Having this option to turn off SMS will ENSURE I dont have surprise international text messaging charges.

Bravo, yet again!

Too bad it's not easier to turn on and off. There are time when I need to do SMS messages. But I guess it would be easier just to turn on SMS when I need it rather than risk charges.

And too bad we can't turn this off and on for a given contact.
