How To Keep iPhoto From Launching When You Plug in an iOS Device
Every time I hook up one of our iPhones to our iMac, iPhoto opens. I have to wait a few seconds, quit iPhoto, and switch back to iTunes again. I’m sure it’s a setting on the iMac, but which one?

Back off, iPhoto! We'll call you when we need you!
It’s a setting in iPhoto, actually. Open iPhoto > Preferences, and look under the General tab for a dropdown labeled “Connecting camera opens.” (iPhoto views your iPhone as just another camera.) Set that dropdown to “No application.” Now, when you want to get photos from your iPhone into iPhoto, you’ll have to connect the iPhone to the iMac, launch iPhoto manually, and select the iPhone in iPhoto’s sidebar, under Devices.

Best way to deal with it if you have multiple devices (and who doesn't) is to use Cameras by Flexbits (http://www.flexibits.com/). From that you can select what action to do for each device. Like for me I don't want iPhoto to open when I put in my iPhone, but I do when I put in a SD card from my Nikon D40X.
