Let family and friends know how you’re doing with a stylish newsletter

With a rich set of templates available in Pages you can tell stories, share pictures and even let others know about your favorite recipes and vacation destinations. Adding images and text is a cinch and you can change any element of the templates to suit your style. There are 14 newsletter templates available in Pages, each with different themes to suit the tone of your publication and, if you want to get really creative, you can start from a blank canvas and create your own layout.

Create a cool newsletter in Pages – in print or as a PDF.

In this tutorial we’re going to show you the basics of creating a newsletter and provide you with a few extra tricks when it comes to printing out your document, making it easy to send it in the post or send it via email. All you need is a selection of great photos, a few stories to write about and you’re ready to begin publishing your newsletter. But before you begin, it’s probably worth planning out which events you want to include and building an album of photos you want to use. That way, they’ll be ready to drop in once you get designing in Pages.
 
Not only will your recipients enjoy your handiwork and be impressed at your design skills, but you’ll also be creating a keepsake that you can look back on in years to come, or print multiple issues to build an anthology of your memories.

Create and Share a Newsletter

  Pick Your Style

  On launching Pages, click Newsletters under Page Layout in the Template Chooser. Here you’ll see all of the available template styles and if you scroll the cursor over each image you can look at other pages in the design to get a feel for the overall layout.

  Get Writing

  When you’ve decided on the template you want, double-click its image to open it. You will be presented with the first page of your newsletter with dummy text included. Create a title, captions and text to fill the spaces and adjust the font size from the tool bar if desired.

  Add Your Images

  Each image on the Pages Newsletter template is a placeholder, so you can replace them with your own images by dragging and dropping. Click the Media button at the top-right of the interface to select and add your photos. Size and orientation can be adjusted.

  A Different View

  At the bottom left of the interface, click on the percentage shown (by default it’s 125%). Then select Two Up from the drop-down menu to show two pages at once. Click on the Pages button at the top of the interface and choose a new page design to add to your newsletter.

  New Pages

  Edit this page in the same way as you did the first, adding text and dropping in images, and repeat the process for as many pages as you wish to add. You can add more text pages, photo collages or a mixture of both from the Pages menu.

  Position Your Pages As you add more Pages you’ll begin to get a feel for how your newsletter is going to flow. If at any point you decide to change the page order, select the thumbnail for that page from the sidebar and drag it to a new position. The main Pages screen automatically updates.

  Prepare to Share

  From the Pages Share menu, select Export then choose PDF. Select a location to export your newsletter to, such as the Desktop, then save and close your newsletter. You can send this document in an email if you wish but we’re going to look at printing.

  Print Options

  Now open the PDF version of your document in Preview and select Print from the File menu. Check all the settings are correct and all of the pages of your newsletter are included before clicking the Print button.

  Quick Tip

  Fool your printer into double-sided printing. Select to print each page individually and leave one sheet of paper from your printer. Now print the page and return the sheet to the printer with the printed side facing away from you. Rinse and repeat!
