Previously, I consolidated my iTunes library onto an external drive, and it’s working great! I am going to be getting a new Mac soon, and I was wondering how do I point the new Mac’s iTunes to the external drive? Thanks for the help!
With the iTunes library on your external drive, the only things you’ll need to do is to close iTunes on the old Mac, unmount and unplug the external drive, and plug it in to the new Mac.
Switching Macs with an external drive library is simple… just hold down the Option key while launching iTunes.
After the drive mounts in the Finder on the new Mac, launch iTunes while holding down the Option key on your keyboard. A dialog will appear, asking whether you want to create a new iTunes library, or choose an existing one. Select Choose Library, and then locate and select the iTunes folder on your external drive. To load the selected library, click Open. iTunes will open, displaying your library just as it appeared on your old Mac.
Just select that top iTunes folder and click Open.
